In 2013, the Virginia Beach Jaycees created a sister organization (The VB Jaycees Charities), to further support our philanthropic efforts and charitable initiatives. The purpose and existence of the Charities arm is to combat community deterioration and juvenile delinquency by fostering amateur sports competitions, engaging in community service projects, providing education for individuals on personal and civic responsibility and business skills. The VB Jaycees Charities is an approved 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization which can accept tax-exempt donations.
A core component which differentiates the VB Jaycees Charities from the VB Jaycees is their mentorship aspect. While the VB Jaycees are comprised of individuals between the ages of 18 and 40, the board members for Charities consist of Jaycees Life Members, former Jaycees and select VB Jaycees in good standing. This allows the Charities side to guide and influence the direction of the VB Jaycees and remain true to our historical roots.
In addition, the VB Jaycees Charities allows the VB Jaycees to raise money and support LOCAL efforts. A majority of money raised through fundraising efforts stays in Hampton Roads, Virginia Beach more specifically. Through the creation of the sister agency, the VB Jaycees are able to host our annual Christmas Shopping Tour, fund our Brooks Briggs Scholarship and support local community members experiencing medical challenges and hardships.
