Since 2013, the Virginia Beach Jaycees have presented Be The Match Silent Auction in honor and memory of the friends and family of the Jaycees. Volunteers solicit and collect donations which are offered during the event for auction. All revenue is donated to Be The Match Foundation. During this event, the Jaycees invite the regional Be The Match representative and they also host a donor drive, wherein they add potential donors to the registry.
Be The Match is a federally funded nonprofit organization that maintains a database of volunteers willing to donate a portion of their marrow or blood-forming cells to patients in need of a transplant. The growth of the Registry gives increased hope to the thousands of patients who are looking for a matched donor. Be The Match Registry is the world’s largest and most diverse registry of potential marrow donors and donated cord blood units. With more than 9.5 million potential donors, our growing registry is helping more patients than ever before get the transplant they need.
Our efforts may add many names to the Be The Match Registry of unrelated marrow and blood cell donors for patients hoping for a match much like our friends and family have done in the past.
The Virginia Beach Jaycees, and other community activists donate their time and resources to provide emcee services, DJ services, venue space, graphic design and marketing as well. The event has been publicized by community partners such as Coastal Virginia, VB Nightlife, FM99 and other media networks in the past. Corporate sponsors include Chubb & Son Group of Insurance.
